Mineral fertilizers are products that provide essential nutrients for plants and are obtained from raw materials from nature.
The fertilizer industry transforms these nutrients into a form that can be easily utilized by crops.
Fertilizers are necessary and they provide great benefits for food production and human health.
The efficient and rational use of fertilizers is not harmful to the environment, but rather improves soil fertility and plant resistance to pests and diseases, while also allowing for greater atmospheric CO2 sequestration.
Rational application of fertilizers
Use fertilizers with good physical and chemical quality.
Use the most appropriate ones, depending on: chemical and physical characteristics of the soil, climate, and nutritional requirements of the crop.
Provide nutrients as needed for optimal crop performance.
In fertigation, use specific fertilizers for this technique (nitric N is the most suitable due to its rapid absorption).
Determine the doses of nutrients that should be supplied with fertilizers based on a balance.
INPUTS: The balance will consider the soil's nutrient content and its availability to the crop, the nutrients supplied by irrigation water and the organic matter available on the farm (based on its mineralization coefficient), etc.
OUTPUTS: Needs will be calculated taking into account harvest extractions according to expected yields.
Calculate the economic optimum to maximize the economic profitability of fertilizers based on their price and that of the harvest.
Incorporate them at the ideal time, according to nutrient availability, their chemical form, and the crop's greatest need, taking into account the weather.
Split your application whenever possible, especially with nitrogen fertilizers.
In drip irrigation, apply fertilizers consistently, adjusting them to the plant's needs and controlling their concentration in the water to avoid increasing salinity.
Use application techniques that allow for the most homogeneous and precise dosage possible.
Calibrate fertilizer spreaders according to their manufacturer's specifications and the physical characteristics of the fertilizer.
Maintain application equipment in good condition to optimize distribution.
In irrigation, apply them whenever possible in the irrigation water.
Apply nutrients close to the absorbing roots, taking into account their mobility in the soil.
Bury fertilizers whenever the crop allows it.
